The trade worked out about as bad as humanly possible
But I disagree that's the picks were more valuable. At least to us. We were in a desperate situation to get guys who could help immediately. The "core" was already in place. More picks didn't hve the cache for us any longer.
Plus- even if Reinhart had slipped, it was the high second where we way overpaid. The middling first wasn't way out of order at the time.
Not to mention that another smallish forward was not what was in the menu for the oilers at that time.
Also- handedness be damned. We needed high end pieces on the backend.
No doubt it was a swing and amiss, and maybe pc didn't do his due diligence as you've stated (panic after losing out on Hamilton) but whatev - handedness is a problem we have now or one that is relevant to teams with pieces already in place. We didn't even an NHL caliber corp at that point . He wanted a high end piece for th blueline. Being a leftie was moot
Not at all trying to say the deal Wasn't a disaster. And it's a big mistake by pc. Just that the climate was a little Different a couple years back |

Kinda got this feeling this that Reinhart could still become an effective stay at home defender in this league
But more importantly- Connor McmotherfukingDavid cleaned up |

Nah....Reinhart is a prototypical 90's player....he'll be a #6 at best. |

I don't care which team you follow but I think every fan loves or needs to love 97. He is Crosby without the whining but with high-end plays at high-end speed (Bure anyone?). He plays the game so right (would be perfect if he had Forsberg's grit!) I am so excited for hockey these coming years (even from a NJ fan)I think for me the last time the NHL had the unique and amazing skill was Crosby/Ovi and before that the Kariya era. Matthews, 97 and crew will change the game again like those others did. I will predict in the end, with at least 1 cup to his name, 97 will be in the books a greater player than 87. |

Hard to say...Crosby is about as complete a player the NHL has ever seen. |

Bob should have won the Hart. As soon as he became average that team floundered. |

Fair
and talbot, Leon, klefbom had a lot to do with the oilers success as well
Maybe by true MVP definition you might Be right (still highly debatable ) but it doesn't seems like they Often use that as their barometer
Seems like they just Give it to the guy who was the best player in the league in the regular season.
Only caveat is gotta make the playoffs |

I think playoffs count towards the award and Bob poop the bed in the playoffs. |

They don't
Voting is meant to be done before they start as they don't want playoffs affecting votes just as you've stated
Either way - even if is debatable- Connors got a solid case for both MVP to his team and best player in the league
Either scenario he wins. Crazy how much he won by too |

Yeah to me they really waiver on the whole actual MVP meaning. I would have went 1 Bob 2 McDavid 3 Karlsson based on value to success

In the playoffs not the regular season. It is a regular season award. The NHL is dumb in a lot of the way they pick awards and finalists. An example would be that Price and not Talbot was in the final 3 for the Vezina. |
